I saw my friend, Melia's FB status. She was talking about how her son asked her, "Do you love me, mum?" whenever she scolded him. She asked, how to answer to that.
Well, the simple standard answer is "I love you no matter what but I need to tell you off when you do something naughty for your own good", right???
Now I have another issue. My daughter was used to be like that too. I had no problem answering her 'do you love me, mum?' question.
However nowadays, sometimes I just couldn't be bothered scolding her when she did something she wasn't supposed to be doing. Because, come on, scolding takes a lot of energy, trust me! And some days, I just can't be bothered. Either I was too tired or too sleepy or just chose to close one eye.
So, when JL did something naughty & was expecting a good dose of scolding from me, but I didn't scold her, she would ask me "Do you still love me, mum?" I said, "Of course I do!" She said, "Then why didn't you scold me when I did something wrong? If you don't scold me, that means you don't love me. Because if you love me, you'll scold me when I was naughty."
Now, how to answer to that???
Tell her that I couldn't be bothered telling her off??? Then she would really think that I don't love her anymore.
*sigh*
I'll make more effort to gather my energy to scold her when she does something naughty. Most 4 yo will be happy to 'escape' the scolding, why is she demanding one? She is one of a kind.
